FAQs
Can I put hot objects on granite?

Yes, granite is very resistant to heat. This is why granite is ideal for kitchens.

How do I know if my granite needs to be resealed?

One way to check would be to sprinkle water on to the surface, if the water soaks into the stone instead of beading up your granite needs to be resealed.

Will my granite have a seam?

If possible we try hard to avoid seams. However most kitchens will have a seam no matter how hard you try. Seam placement is determined by StoneQuarters.

Will my cabinets support granite?

Granite is a heavy product, but your cabinets are usually stronger than you think. When giving your free estimate we will make sure to check and see if your cabinets will be able to hold granite.

Can I cut on my granite countertops?

Yes, although it may dull your knives!

What is the difference in 2cm and 3cm granite?

2cm granite is  approximately 3/4″ thick and 3cm granite is approximately 1 3/16″ thick. We recommend 3cm granite for durable and aesthetic reasons.

Marble

  • Interior and Exterior Wall Cladding
  • Interior and Exterior Paving
  • Fireplace Facing and Hearth
  • Lavatory Tops
  • Residential & Commercial Counter Tops
  • Table Tops
  • Statuary
  • Novelty Items

Marble is a metamorphic rock. Its basic ingredient can be found everywhere from limestone to baking soda, from calcium carbonate to lime (white wash). The basic ingredient goes by many other names depending on its application and its form. Limestone, a sedimentary form of calcium, which is found naturally in the earth, undergoes intense heat and pressure within the earth to be formed into what we know as marble.

This rock can also be exposed to heat and grinding to become a filler ingredient for medications, writing paper, plaster of Paris, lime (white wash), and cement hardener. This means that marble, although beautiful and durable, is porous and very easily destroyed by any type of acid, heat, or water. Even with a seal coating applied religiously every year, no types of chemicals may be used to wash the countertops made from it. It cannot take much abuse from water, acids such as lemon or orange juice, or high heat from pans. These will all destroy the seal coating and the marble beneath.

Since marble is so porous, it is also easily stained. One single scratch can allow liquids or even oxidation from the air to leak under the seal coating and stain the marble. This doesn’t mean that it should not be used. Marble is ideal for use in low traffic areas or for sculpting amazing art out of. But for the high traffic use of a kitchen countertop, a floor, or a bathroom countertop, marble just means high maintenance.

Quartz

  • Third hardest material on the earth
  • Can be fabricated to look like granite or other natural stones such as limestone and marble
  • Manufactured in long, thick slabs that can be installed as one piece
  • Exceptionally hard, durable, and non porous
  • Does not require frequent resealing
  • Highly resistant to chips and dents
FAQs
What are natural quartz surfaces?

Natural quartz, or engineered stone, is a surface material consisting of 93% natural quartz and 7% resin. It is used primarily for kitchen and bath applications and requires less maintenance and is more durable than natural stone.

How does natural quartz compare to other countertop surfaces?

Natural quartz is one of the most durable, maintenance-free materials available. It is extremely stain, scratch, heat and bacteria resistant. It is also nonporous, which means it requires no sealants or waxes to retain its lustrous gloss.

Does natural quartz burn or stain?

Natural quartz has extraordinary strength and heat resistance, although caution should be used when transferring very hot items to its surface. Trivets or hot pads should be used to protect the finish. Natural quartz is nonporous and doesn’t absorb liquids, making it highly stain resistant.

Can you scratch or crack natural quartz?

Natural quartz is one of the strongest, hardest materials available. Under normal conditions, natural quartz does not chip, scratch or crack. It may, however, chip or crack if hit with a hammer or impact tool.
